Newfoundland Power Inc
Newfoundland Power Today
We provide safe, reliable electricity to over 276,000 customers, representing about 87% of all customers in Newfoundland and Labrador. We employ over 650 skilled employees from St. John's to Port aux Basques.
Our roots run deep. We have been providing electricity to the people of our province for almost 140 years. The electric light business in Newfoundland and Labrador began just six years after Thomas Edison invented the light bulb in 1879. St. John’s Electric Light Company was established in 1885. Through a series of operational expansions, purchases and amalgamations the business grew to become what we now call Newfoundland Power Inc.
You're In Good Hands
Serving customers means everything to our employees...keeping the lights on in your homes and businesses, and making sure your family is safe. Our teams are ready to help whenever you need them. You're in good hands.
Newfoundland Power is an investor-owned, regulated utility. Our regulator is the Newfoundland and Labrador Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (PUB). We operate under cost of service regulation which is the most common form of regulation for investor-owned gas and electric utilities in Canada. A government appointed consumer advocate represents the interests of consumers in matters before the PUB.
Newfoundland Power is committed to business excellence. We hold ourselves to the highest operating standards in safety, reliability, customer service and environment. Our dedicated and skilled employees are responsible for delivering on these commitments each and every day.
